FULLY AUTOMATED The new VNV Nation album "AUTOMATIC" will be released on September 16th in Europe (CD/Digital). In North America, the digital version will be available on September 16th and the CD is out on October 25th. Now that the album production is finished, we can tell you that it exceeded our expectations. This is a big step on for us and we're very proud of the album. We would even dare to say that it's our favourite so far, even though comments like this are heresy for some :)
AUTOMATIC TOUR 2011-2012 The European tour kicks off on September 6th in Germany with appearances at the E-Tropolis and NCN festivals right before it. At all of the regular tourdates, we will be playing an extended live set. We get lots of requests for songs that we rarely get a chance to play so, as well as the songs you all know and love and expect to hear or there'll be trouble, we want to include rarities, alternate versions and more. Our über-special guests on the tour in September will be Straftanz. This is a band who put on a great live show and are the right kind of people to be stuck in a bus for 4 weeks with when you have a voucher for therapist sessions that you need to use. Dates are on the LIVE page. E-Tickets for the German shows, that you can buy online for a small service charge and print at home, saving you the normal additional costs, are on sale now from NEUWERK We're also finalizing dates for the UK (October), Spain (January) and our booker is working on shows for Scandinavia and South America. The North American tour will run from mid-November to mid December and the second part from mid February to mid March 2012. Dates are on the LIVE page. This won't be all and we'll have plenty of other shows that will get added in the coming months.
REMIXES AND COVER VERSIONS We've just completed a remix of Within Temptation's new single "Sinêad". The band love it so much that their singer Sharon recorded a special vocal to be added to it and the band asked for a special radio version from us. That's the first time that's happened and, as you can imagine, that's an incredible compliment. Das Bunker, the club in LA with the grammatically incorrect name and exceptional taste in music, is releasing a tribute to the 80s compilation where a ton of scene artists attempted to re-create, re-interpret, humiliate and pay ironic tribute to classics from the decade of shoulder pads and frosted highlights. Modcom (Ronan's side project) has a cover version on there of the 80s HiNRG classic "Native Love" with Claus Larsen from Leatherstrip supplying the vocals. If you liked Modcom's remix of Chrome, you haven't heard anything yet. A remix of Rotersand's "Merging Oceans" is also in the works for their re-release.
CROSSING THE DIVIDE A word on the EP. This release date was delayed and then the whole release had to be postponed last year. Even though this frustrated quite a few fans who demanded an explanation, it wasn't really possible to say more than that "there were very valid reasons". A lot of it had to do with personal matters which weren't appropriate for public discussion. The short version is that Ronan had a number of serious eye operations last year. What was supposed to have been a short healing period turned into 6 months of treatment to correct a number of other issues that had been there all along. The whole experience was extremely frustrating and emotionally exhausting for him and, combined with limited computer use, affected any work on tracks or releases. But, that's all out of the way now. What we've decided to do now is to give the EP away for free. We're working with a company called Pledge, which we'll post more about soon, who will assist us with distributing the tracks and cover art. We feel that this is the best way to make good on a promised release that had to be postponed. THE GREAT DIVIDE
SUMMER FESTIVAL OVERLOAD As you can see from the front page or the live page, we've quite a few festival appearances coming this year. There's the Das Boot Festival which takes place between Stockholm and Tallinn (on a ship, of course), Kinetik in Canada, then there are the Mera Luna, E-Tropolis, Nordstern and NCN festivals in Germany, Summer Darkness in Holland and, last but not least, "Infest" in that quaint little English fishing village called Bradford.
VNV'S STUDIO : For those wanting to know what equipment VNV Nation use in their studio you can find a full up-to-date list HERE THE PAST: the name One of the most frequently asked questions is what the letters VNV stand for. They stand for "Victory not Vengeance". The meaning behind this stylised motto is that one should strive to achieve, not sit in bitter regret.
members VNV Nation are Ronan Harris (electronics, lyrics, vocals) and Mark Jackson (drums).
word and sound VNV Nation´s inspiration was originally the clash of modern and classical Europe cultures, where mythology and technology live in an uneasy fusion but this has since broadened to encompass a world view. The music ranges from electronic dance music to ballads and classical inspired music. Inspirations are taken from a wide range of styles including contemporary underground club culture, industrial and classical music. The lyrics draw on philosophy, literature, art, politics and different forms of symbolism. VNV Nation does not advocate any ideology. It is a metaphor for expression
history 1990-93 : VNV Nation is formed after Ronan Harris moves to London from his native Dublin, Ireland. Originally it comprised a collage of orchestral, electronic dance and soundtrack inspired pieces. This results in two limited edition self-produced vinyl releases - "Body Pulse" (May 90) and "Strength of Youth", " (Nov 90). Ronan moves to Toronto in late 1990 where he continues working on the project. 1994 -95 : In late 1994 Ronan returns to Europe to complete new and reworked material. Exclusive tracks are released on samplers and in July 1995 VNV Nation sign with German label Discordia and release the first full length CD "ADVANCE & FOLLOW". Around the same time Mark Jackson joins the band as live drummer. 1998 : In January 98 VNV NATION sign with German label Off-Beat and release the full-length album "Praise the Fallen" (02.06.98) and the "Solitary EP" (14.09.98). VNV Nation do their first headline tour of Germany in September 98. 1999 - 00 : VNV Nation sign with Dependent Records. In late 99 the album "Empires" is released and stays at No.1 in the DAC (German Alternative Charts) for 7 weeks winning DAC album of the year '99. The album has 2 singles- "Darkangel", which tops the DAC for 5 weeks in mid 99 and "Standing", which stays at no.1 in the DAC for 8 weeks in early 2000 (the maximum a single can remain in the DAC) winning a German Alternative Music Award for most successful single of 2000 and sharing the place for most successful single in the DAC's history with the Chemical Brothers. A limited edition of the Standing single was also released entitled "Standing / Burning Empires" which contained alternate versions and remixes by VNV Nation of tracks from "Empires". This remains one of the most sought after VNV rarities. 2001 - 02 : In March of 2001 the first ever VNV Nation album was remastered and released as "Advance and Follow v2". In September of the same year the single "Genesis" was released. It spent 4 weeks in the German Media Control Charts reaching no.67 as well as reaching No.1 in the DAC. In October 2001 VNV Nation embark on the highly successful "Futureperfect" tour of Europe and North America. The 4th full length CD "Futureperfect" was released in January 2002 and reached no.25 in the German Album Charts. This was followed by a second single "Beloved" which again reached the high 60's in the German Singles Chart. Following the release of "Beloved" VNV Nation leave Dependent. In April 2002 VNV Nation go on a second tour of the US. Despite being 4-5 months after the previous tour of North America it is an even bigger success. 2003 : VNV Nation form their own label "Anachron Sounds" to exclusively handle all future releases by VNV Nation. The first release is the Honour 2003 EP in June 2003. 2004 : The Pastperfect double DVD is released and reaches #3 in the German Music DVD charts. VNV Nation start work on the 5th album "Matter and Form". 2005 : After not having played there for 3 years, VNV Nation plays 8 major US cities with Front 242 sideproject Coder 23 to start the year. All shows are sold out except Detroit which is hit by a major snowstorm on the day of the show. "Matter and Form" is released in April. It reaches #7 on the US Billboard Electronic Chart, #32 on the US Billboard Independent Chart, #1 on the German Alternative Album Chart and #38 on the German Media Control Album Charts. The band tours Europe and North America on the main section of their "Formation Tour". The tour lasts 3 months, covers 60 shows and is a complete success. 2007 : VNV Nation's next studio album was Judgement, released to the world on 4 April 2007. Containing 10 tracks, it continued the evolution of the VNV Nation sound. On 25 April 2007 at the sold-out show at The Metro in Chicago, Ronan Harris has stated that the rumors about Judgement being the last album were false and that more was to come and that Judgement was just the beginning. At the alternative electronic music festival Infest in Bradford on 26 August 2007, just after the murder of Sophie Lancaster, Ronan dedicated the song "Illusion" to her and contacted the family soon afterwards to offer his condolences. 2009: Two years after "Judgement", the box set Reformation 1 was released in Europe on 24th April 2009. US release on May 12th. 2009 : The next album, Of Faith, Power and Glory was mentioned on the band's myspace blog. Ronan confirmed to Side-Line Magazine that they were aiming for late April to release the album, which would be titled "Of Faith, Power and Glory", or as Harris described it: "The 3 things that people desire and which can make you or destroy you!"[4]. Due to the release of "Reformation 1" in mid April, the release of the album was postponed to June 2009, and the album was released in the U.S. on CD and in the iTunes Store on June 23, 2009.
